Tranquility makes 69 SW for Redoute’s Choice
Leading Perth owners Bob and Sandra Peters gave champion sire Redoute’s Choice his 69th stakeswinner this evening, when their 4YO mare Tranquility (ex Creatrix by Umatilla) won the $80,000 WATC La Trice Classic 1800m LR.
Jockey William Pike settled Tranquility in a trail behind Premardal and then, as the field swung for home, he released the brakes and the mare let down with a good finishing burst to win by 1.5 lengths from Premardal.
Today’s victory was Tranquility’s third win from ten starts, which also include second placings in last season’s Belmost Guineas LR and the Jungle Dawn Classic LR on 27 November. She is now likely to step up to the 2400 metres of the $400,000 BMW Perth Cup G2 on New Year’s Day.
Bred by Queensland bloodstock investor Paul Sweeney, Tranquility was a $300,000 purchase from the 2008 Australian Easter Yearling Sale. The Belmont Bloodstock Agency signed for the filly on behalf of the Peters, who subsequently bought her dam as well. Creatrix visited Redoute’s Choice again this season and is safely in foal.
Tranquility’s pedigree features 3 x 3 inbreeding to the great broodmare Dancing Show, through the half-siblings Shantha’s Choice (dam of Redoute’s Choice) and Umatilla.
Redoute’s Choice’s tally of stakeswinners this season is now seven: G1 King’s Rose (in New Zealand), G2 Rekindled Interest, G3 Drumbeats, SW Kittens, SW Milestone, SW Grand Jardin and SW Tranquility. Arrowfield’s superstar shares first spot on the current Australian Sires of stakeswinners list with Lonhro and Commands.
Redoute’s Choice has been among Australia’s top five sires of individual stakeswinners every season since 2005, and headed the list in 2008/09 (with 15) and 2009/10 (with 14). History indicates that he’s on target for another double-figure total in 2010/11. Last season for instance, he posted eight Australian stakeswinners by Christmas and almost doubled that tally by the end of the season.
