Time to rave about Ravi

Time to rave about Ravi

Kia Ora Stud’s home-bred mare Ravi showed that her breakthrough to stakes success last season was no flash in the pan with a decisive first-up victory in the $150,000 ATC Sheraco S. 1200m G3 at Rosehill on Saturday.

Hampered by poor starts earlier in her career, Ravi began perfectly this time which allowed Kerrin Mcevoy to work her in from a wide draw to settle fourth, one off the fence. Eased wider on the turn, the daughter of Redoute’s Choice drove forward to challenge the favourite Bonny O’Reilly, then pulled clear to score by two lengths from Perizada and Daysee Doom.

Watch Ravi win the ATC Sheraco S. G3.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden  said,”We wanted to be a bit positive early, she stepped well, looked like she was going to get caught three deep but Kerrin persevered and got into a great spot.

“She travelled really well and there was a lot to like about her last 200 metres, she was very strong.”

With plenty of black type sprints programmed during the Spring, Ravi’s record is likely to improve further on the six wins and $406,000 prizemoney she’s already accumulated.

One of six winners out of Mambo In Freeport (by Kingmambo), Ravi is a full sister to English stakeswinner Elzaam, also runner-up in the 2010 Royal Ascot Coventry S. G2.

Ravi is the second stakeswinner this season for Redoute’s Choice, after Pariah, successful in the ATC San Domenico S. G3 on 26 August, and a fine second in the Run to the Rose G2, the race after the Sheraco Stakes.

Redoute’s Choice is now only one away from a couple of career milestones, his 100th Group winner and 150th stakeswinner.
