The Sapphire goes to Snitzel’s Wee Nessy
Snitzel’s bonny 4YO daughter Wee Nessy sealed an edition of The Championships that Arrowfield will long remember with a terrific victory in the $300,000 ATC Sapphire S. 1200m G2.
That’s her first Group win after Listed success last season and 5 Group placings in a super-consistent, 16-start, $696,000 career from the Price Kent stable. Wee Nessy is Champion Sire Snitzel’s 9th individual stakeswinner this season and one of 11 stakeswinners from his 2019 crop.

Jockey Jamie Lee Kah said, “She’s just push-button, she’s everybody’s dream to ride, she does whatever you want, and she’s talented as well, which helps!”
A $400,000 Magic Millions graduate, Wee Nessy was bred & sold by Arrowfield which has remained in her ownership alongside Flying Angels, Barragunda Racing and Mes Chevaux.
Her city-winning, stakes-placed dam Later Gator (by More Than Ready and descended from Denise’s Joy) has also left Group-placed pair Adios & Snapback to Snitzel, and has a 2YO daughter Oaksdeel (by Dundeel) followed by a 2023 Snitzel colt. The Snitzel/More Than Ready cross has produced 3 other Group winners from only 37 runners: Golden Slipper winner Shinzo, Exhilarates & Scallopini.
Arrowfield is also breeding from Wee Nessy’s three-quarter sister In A While (by Redoute’s Choice), already the dam of this season’s 2YO Sydney winner Southern Charm (by Shalaa).
