Ten days, 11 winners for Redoute’s Choice

Take champion sire Redoute’s Choice and the fine broodmare Rekindled Affair; add trainer Paul Messara and owner-breeder Jonathan Munz with owners Arrowfield and Blue Sky Thoroughbreds and the result is the sparkling new talent Rekindled Alliance.

The strapping colt raced a little greenly on debut in today’s competitive 1100-metre maiden at Canterbury, but when jockey Corey Brown sent him forward on the turn, he extended and sprinted in the manner of a horse destined for better things.

Brown said, “He travelled really well, although was still a bit green, but when I pressed the button, he really accelerated… I haven’t ridden one for a while that quickened like that.”

Rekindled Alliance was a $400,000 purchase from the Bellerive Stud draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. His full brother, last season’s Group 2 winner Rekindled Interest opened his spring campaign with an eye-catching second in last weekend’s VRC Aurie’s Star H. G3. Sadly, their dam Rekindled Affair died in December 2009 after foaling a filly by Redoute’s Choice.

By Rainbow Quest from Irish stakeswinner Seasonal Pickup, Rekindled Affair is the dam of seven winners from eight foals to race, including US Group 3 winner Where We Left Off and European stakeswinner Porticcio.

The partnership of Blue Sky Thoroughbreds and Arrowfield is dedicated to identifying and developing stalllion prospects, among them Beneteau , standing his first season at Arrowfield in 2011, and dual Group winner Shrapnel who remains in training with Mark Kavanagh.

Redoute’s Choice has now had eleven Australian winners in the first 10 days of the 2011/12 season, five of them progressive 3YOs: Just the Tonic (trained by Gai Waterhouse), Niconoise & Cross of Gold (David Hayes), Hurriyet (Peter Moody) and Rekindled Alliance.
