SW No. 34 for Maurice

Leading owner-breeder Bob Peters’ consistent support for Maurice was rewarded at Ascot on Saturday when Cosmic Crusader raced away with the $125,000 Perth Racing Carbine Club of WA S. 1400m LR, becoming his sire’s 34th stakeswinner.

It was a performance that begged the question of what the 5YO gelding might have done if he’d gained a start in the Railway S. G1 on the same card. However, he will get his chance at Group 1 level at his likely next start, the $1.5 million Northerly Stakes over 1800m on 6 December, the 4th day of Perth’s 5-meeting Pinacles Carnival.

Cosmic Crusader has already built an excellent record of 7 wins and 4 placings (two in Group 3 company) and $415,000 prizemoney from 15 starts in the care of trainer Michael Grantham.

Cosmic Crusader is the second foal of multiple stakeswinner Cosmic Storm (by Street Sense), a half-sister of Superstorm (VRC Cantala S. G1) & Listed winner Mikimoto, and a full sister of Listed winner Royal Command. Their wonderful dam, dual Group winner Stormy Nova was sold to Oakland Park Stud in 2017 and left three more winners before her death last year.

Cosmic Crusader has a 2YO full brother Cosmic Icon, and their dam is back in foal to Maurice.

Maurice has had a productive year in both hemispheres, with 14 stakes performers in Japan, including 5 stakeswinners, and 12 stakes horses in Australia, including Group winners Ethereum Girl & multi-millionaire Mazu.

And there is plenty more to come. Maurice’s current Australian-bred 3YOs and 2YOs, conceived on fees of $44,000 & $82,500, are out of a dazzling group of mares, among them Group 1 winners Aristia, Fenway, Hollow Bullet, Kahma Lass & Shoals; Group winners Bella Rosa, Flying Evelyn, I Am Serious, Irithea, Lady Cumquat, Mallory, Noire & Teaspoon; and Group 1 producers Angel Of Mercy (dam of Autumn Angel), Sarraqa (dam of Celestial Legend), Star Pupil (dam of Lady Shenandoah), The Broken Shore (dam of Shoals) & Zenaida (dam of Sunshine In Paris).

Maurice offers these opportunities to buyers at upcoming 2026 yearling sales:
