Strong NZ 2YO results for Arrowfield sires

Ten 2YOs by Arrowfield sires averaged NZ$243,000 at this week’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale – 55% above the sale’s record-setting average price of NZ$156,255.
Arrowfield also had a small role in the pedigree of the NZ$825,000 top-priced Zoustar colt, one of 16 horses purchased by Hong Kong buyer Mr Yeung Kim Man. The colt is out of Arrowfield Magic Millions graduate stakeswinner Hijack Hussy (by Hussonet), who has proved to be a money-making gem for her original Prime Thoroughbreds owners, Glenlogan Park and now pin-hookers KB Bloodstock.
KB Bloodstock also offered the Snitzel-Samovare colt, who breezed up in 10.80 and sold for NZ$525,000 to Waikato-based Patella Bloodstock – a healthy return on his $150,000 Inglis Easter purchase price. The colt’s Group 3-winning dam is a half-sister to Group winners Tiger Of Malay and Samizdat (by Not A Single Doubt), from the family of Golden Slipper winner Dark Eclipse.

Five 2YOs by The Autumn Sun were sold, headed by the NZ$425,000 gelding ex Mummentum (by O’Reilly) offered by Riversley Park on behalf of Little Avondale Stud and purchased by WK Yip for Hong Kong where The Autumn Sun has posted 5 winners this year.
Hong Kong is also the desination for Apex Bloodstock’s $240,000 colt by The Autumn Sun from Tonza Rossa (by Testa Rossa), bought by J. Ting.
Castelvecchio’s only lot in the Sale, Gosford Park’s gelding out of Cash First (by Exceed and Excel) was knocked down to the NZ$325,000 bid of former Sydney trainer Mark Newnham, who now heads the current trainers’ premiership in Hong Kong. That represented a very tidy profit on his $95,000 yearling purchase price, paid by agent Paul Willetts & Richard Otto at the Inglis HTBA Sale in April.
Maurice also had just one 2YO in the catalogue, BMD Bloodstock’s colt ex Keepeherinmind (by Keeper), a sister of New Zealand Oaks G1 winner Keep The Peace. A $40,000 Inglis Premier yearling buy, he was secured for $NZ170,000 by the Sydney stable of John O’Shea & Tom Charlton.
The next major auction opportunity to purchase Arrowfield-sired progeny comes up at the 2026 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, featuring 112 lots by first season sire Hitotsu, Admire Mars, Castelvecchio, Dundeel, Maurice, The Autumn Sun and Snitzel.
