Starcraft’s 2YO Award Finalist

Looking more like classy 3YOs-in-the-making than natural-born 2YOs, the first-crop Starcraft s made a big impression last season with their easy-moving athleticism, so reminiscent of their charismatic champion racehorse Dad.

Starcraft’s nine first-crop juvenile winners were headed by Star Witness, stunning winner of the MRC Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond S. G1, and now giving his sire another highlight, as a finalist for the 2010 Australian Champion 2YO Award. The winner will be announced in Melbourne on Sunday 5 September.

Bred by Alma Vale Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Star Witness also won last season’s VRC Talindert S. LR and finished third at his 3YO debut in last weekend’s MRC Vain S. LR.

Ahead of that run, Star Witness’ trainer Danny O’Brien said, “There’s no guarantees about anything, but we have always thought he would be a better three-year-old, and the indications are he hasn’t gone backwards.

“He had a good break in the autumn, he’s had a long build-up and he’s had a faultless preparation.

“He’s definitely bigger and stronger. He’s showing us more than he did as a two-year-old and we’re hoping that translates into a big spring.”

Starcraft stands the 2010 season at a fee of $38,500 (inc. GST).
