Stakes treble for Redoute’s Choice & Sons

The booming success of Redoute’s Choice and his Arrowfield-based sons continued on Saturday with geographically diverse stakes victories by Abidewithme, Prompt Response & Scales Of Justice.

Not A Single Doubt’s imposing 4YO son Scales of Justice produced an outstanding performance to win the $150,000 WATC R.J. Peters S. 1500m G3 at Ascot in Perth. Backing up from a strong win a fortnight earlier, the gelding jumped well and sat just behind the speed before taking the lead at the top of the straight  and showing his customary determination to score by a length from Bass Strait and Ideal Image. Trainer Lindsey Smith said afterwards that he will back Scales of Justice up next Saturday in the $1 million WATC Railway S. G1, won last year by another son of Not A Single Doubt, Good Project.

Bred by Gerard & Kathy Hammond, Scales of Justice is the sixth and final foal of the unraced mare Beymatilla (by Umatilla) and was a $180,000 purchase by Boomer Bloodstock from Millford Thoroughbreds at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. He has won or placed in all of his 12 starts for owners Chris Wells & Bill Andrews and is Not A Single Doubt’s 35th stakeswinner.

Beneteau also posted a new stakeswinner when 3YO filly Prompt Response won the $120,000 MRC Twilight Glow S. 1400m LR for breeder Ron Hamer and co-owner Mark Sowerby, who also race her Group 3-winning older brother Prompt Return. The pair are out of Prompt (by Exceed and Excel), a daughter of the five-time winner and multiple Group placegetter Amnesia, and have each earned almost $300,000. Prompt Response is prepared by the Waterhouse-Bott partnership.

Beneteau’s two crops have already ensured he will be remembered as a successful sire whose premature death in 2013 was a real blow for Australian thoroughbred breeding. VRC Oaks winner Lasqueti Spirit heads his list of nine stakeswinners among 16 stakes performers – that’s an impressive 18.8% per cent of his runners. He is currently second on the Australian 3rd Season Sires’ table, behind another young Arrowfield-sired stallion, Star Witness (by Starcraft), who defeated Beneteau in a notable running of the Blue Diamond S. G1.

Redoute’s Choice himself chimed in thanks to an eye-catching performance by his daughter Abidewithme who stormed home from the back of the field to win the $100,000 Tauranga S. 1600m G2.

Co-trainer Jamie Richards said, “That was a great performance, she’s a mare who’s in great form at the moment. She’s the biggest and strongest we’ve ever seen her.

“She was served by Tavistock this Spring, and she’s tested positive in foal. So we’ve only got a limited amount of time left with her, but I think we could have a lot of fun in that time we’ve got left.”

Abidewithme was bred by her owners Sir Patrick & Lady Hogan from the dual Group winner Crimson (by Zabeel) and now has two Group 2 wins and a pair of Listed victories on her nine-win, $400,000 record. Crimson, also the dam of Oaks-placed stakeswinner Miss Scarlatti and grand-dam of multiple stakeswinner Destiny’s Kiss, has a 2YO filly by Redoute’s Choice’s son Burgundy, whose first runner, Hard Merchandize won well on debut at Otaki on 1 November.

Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt and Beneteau have already put up 21 stakeswinners and collective progeny earnings of $11.5 million this season.
