Stakes Success for Huxssen

Talented but at times enigmatic, Hussonet (USA) sprinter Huxssen put the best foot forward at Mornington on Wednesday to win the Listed Hareeba Stakes over 1200 metres.

Blessed with a whirlwind finish when he puts his mind on the job and gets tempo to suit, Huxssen was in his element at Mornington charging home from the back of the field to defeat Stradbroke winner Mr Baritone by a long neck.

Huxssen’s trainer Rod Douglas said the gelding’s effort behind All Silent in the Group Two Gilgai Stakes in the spring gave him plenty of confidence going into Wednesday’s $100,000 event.

“We keep bagging him but we all know his ability,” Douglas said. “I said to Winksy (James Winks) he got beaten 2-1/2 lengthsby All Silent at set weights and penalties.

“I said if they go hard enough they won’t beat him. He’s such a gifted galloper, we all say he’s a pretender but he’s a contender. He’s just such a good horse.”

A $240,000 purchase from the Arrowfield draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock on behalf of Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing, Huxssen has won five of 15 starts earning $179,413 in prizemoney.

Huxssen is from the well-related Diesis mare Musical Tones (USA), a daughter of stakes-winner Arsaan from the family of undefeated champion two year-old Fasliyev (USA) as well as multiple Group One winners Desert Wine, Menifee and brilliant sprinter Les Arcs.

Now in the ownership of Jonathan Munz’s GSA Bloodstock, she produced a full sister to Huxssen last spring and was covered again by the son of Mr Prospector, so the success of Huxssen in a Black Type race will be welcomed.

Huxssen is a new stakes-winner for Hussonet (USA) and is his third Australian stakes-winner this season.

The same connections also captured the juvenile race on the program with Redoute’s Choice first starter Glenkinchie.

Bred by GSA Bloodstock and retained to race, Glenkinchie is the first living foal of stakes-placed Distilled, a half-sister to champion miler Racing to Win.

Glenkinchie will head straight to the spelling paddock, her trainer Rodney Douglas anxious to give the well-bred filly the time she needs to develop.

Sadly Distilled died last year and apart from Glenkinchie has only one other foal, her yearling full brother, who is catalogued for the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 389
