Sport-loving new stakeswinner for Redoute’s Choice

Champion sire Redoute’s Choice added the 106th stakeswinner to his imposing record when 3YO colt Aussies Love Sport powered to victory in today’s $125,000 ATC Ming Dynasty H. 1400m G3.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse, the good-looking Aussies Love Sport races in Segenhoe Thoroughbreds’ red and yellow silks for Leslie Maloney and Katie Page.

He was bred by Katie Page’s husband Gerry Harvey from the remarkable broodmare Miss Jakeo (by Unbridled’s Song), also dam of Group 1 winner Mrs Onassis, and Group 3 winners Miss Judgement and Fifth Avenue Lady from seven foals to race. Miss Jakeo is a winning daughter of dual Group 1 winner Lady Jakeo who also did a fine job at stud, as the dam of US Grade 3 winner Red Arrow and Hong Kong stakeswinner Able Choice.

Aussies Love Sport was purchased by Segenhoe Stud for $450,000 from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

He headed an excellent day for Redoute’s Choice who was represented by another three Group performers, all from his 2009 crop, and all raced by their breeders, at Flemington and Randwick: Fairway Thoroughbreds’ A Time for Julia (3rd, VRC Let’s Elope S. 1400m G2); Sheikh Mohammed’s Albrecht (3rd, VRC Bobbie Lewis Quality 1200m G3) and Gerry Harvey’s Royal Descent (3rd, ATC Tramway S. 1400m G3).

Aussies Love Sport has now won twice and placed twice from six starts, and his next start may be in Group 1 company. Stable representative Mark Newnham said after today’s win, “He is a lovely colt…You wouldn’t get a better looking animal than him and now he is starting to run up to his looks. He is still in the Golden Rose but Gai will decide where he goes to from today.”

Current and former Arrowfield stallions supplied four of the eight winners at Randwick where Snitzel’s son Malavio won the ATC Tramway S. G3, and the now-retired champion sire Flying Spur was represented by progressive 4YOs Spurtonic and That’s A Good Idea.

Redoute’s Choice’s crop of 2010 also includes last week’s impressive Sydney winner Liberty’s Choice, smart debut winner Sensibility, Flemington placegetter Great Esteem and Arrowfield’s colt Busselton, narrowly beaten on debut yesterday at Wyong.
