So You Think’s conqueror stands here

So You Think’s first Group 1 win in Europe on Sunday highlighted – yet again – the quality of All American’s performance to defeat him in the 2009 VRC Emirates S. G1.

So You Think lined up in the race, the premier event on the final day of Melbourne Cup Week, after an imposing victory in the MVRC W.S. Cox Plate G1 two weeks earlier, and as he rolled along in front at Flemington, a repeat performance seemed certain.

That is, until the 200-metre mark, when All American burst from the beaten field and streaked past So You Think to win by 2.5 lengths and stop the clock at 1.33.98 – the fastest time ever posted by an entire for 1600 metres at Flemington.

It was the third Group 1 performance of All American’s career following his second placing in Reaan’s MRC Blue Diamond S. G1 at two, and third placing in the VRC Ascot Vale S. G1 at three.

All American is currently serving his first northern hemisphere book of mares at Darby Dan Farm in Kentucky and his first Australian foals are due this spring.

His 2011 fee is $16,500 inc. GST.
