Snitzel’s million-dollar daughter sparkles at the Valley
Snitzerland. Quite simply, a gun. Adore her.
So tweeted Melbourne racing broadcaster Shane Anderson after Snitzerland’s fourth Group victory, in tonight’s $150,000 MVRC Champagne S. 1200m G3 at Moonee Valley.

And how much there is to adore about the daughter of brilliant young sire Snitzel and Monte Rosa: five wins from 8 starts, four of them at Group level; the bravest of Golden Slipper seconds; more than $1.1 million in prizemoney; a splendid competitive temperament; and a scintillating turn of foot that will next be seen in the $250,000 Blue Sapphire at Caulfield on 13 October.
Snitzerland’s trainer Gerald Ryan is sticking to his 5-race plan for the spring, as he explained to The Courier-Mail last week. “Our aim is to win a Group 1 race with her. The only three-year-old Group 1 over a sprint journey is the Coolmore and when you have a filly like her, why not just aim at it?”
The Arrowfield-bred, Bellerive-sold filly was a $125,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier purchase by Darby Bloodstock, and is raced by Neil Werrett of Black Caviar fame, and Steve McCann. Her dam Monte Rosa foaled a Snitzel colt on 17 September and returns to the outstanding son of champion sire Redoute’s Choice this spring.
Speed machine Snitzem completed a Moonee Valley double for Snitzel when he scorched over 955 metres in the opening heat of the novel 55 Second Challenge. It was also a memorable result for Spicer Thoroughbreds and trainer Leon Corstens, who sent out four runners in Victoria today, and won with all four of them.
Snitzem (ex Jubilee Kate by Distinctly North) who won in 55.85 seconds, is the early leader in the race for the $55,000 Mazda BT-50 that goes to the trainer of the horse clocking the fastest time across the 18 heats. Brad Spicer said afterwards that bar would probably now be raised for the 4YO entire, with the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield in February a long-term option.
Snitzem was bred by Holbrook Thoroughbreds and sold from their draft for $160,000 at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Sale.
