Snitzel’s international Group double

Two weeks into the new season and Snitzel has already posted his second stakes double, this time a pair of international Group successes.

3YO colt Russian Revolution opened this weekend’s batting with a defiant, all-the-way win in Saturday’s $150,000 MRC Vain S. 1100m G3, gamely holding out the fast-finishing Highland Beat with the Redoute’s Choice colt Hardham an eye-catching third.

Jackson Beers, representing Russian Revolution’s trainers Peter & Paul Snowden, said,”It was a tough win. He still learning his trade and had to do it out there on his own. They looked like they had their chance to run him down but couldn’t get him.

“He’s only had three starts but he’s a lovely colt and he’s got plenty of ability.”

Bred by John Stuart Investments, Russian Revolution was purchased by Michael Wallace & the China Horse Club for $320,000 from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Easter Sale. His owners include his breeder, China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and Matthew Sandblom.

He’s the fourth foal and fourth winner out of Ballet D’Amour, who shares her descent from blue hen mare Fanfreluche with champion sires Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago. Ballet D’Amour has a yearling filly by Smart Missile.

Russian Revolution won both his juvenile starts in Sydney in June, and is nominated for both the Golden Rose on 10 September and the Caulfield Guineas on 8 October. Recent winners of the Vain Stakes include winners of both those races Starspangledbanner (2009 Caulfield Guineas) and Toorak Toff (2010 Golden Rose).

4YO colt Young Man Power completed the weekend’s innings with his second Group 3 1600-metre victory, in the ~$1 million Niigata Sekiya Kinen.

Bred by Katsumi Yoshida’s Northern Farm and from the second of Snitzel’s two Japanese crops, Young Man Power is the best of three winners out of four-time winner Snapshot (by Sunday Silence), a grand-daughter of dual Group 1-winning mare River Memories. His four wins and six placings from 14 starts have earned ~$1.8 million.
