Snitzel’s Generation of stakeswinners

The first 78 runners from Snitzel’s 2018 crop, conceived in the Spring after his first Premiership, already include a remarkable eight stakeswinners – three of them Group 1 winners – and all but one of them have earned that status this season.

Number 8 is the aptly named Generation who won the $200,000 Red Anchor S. 1200m G3 on Cox Plate day at The Valley.

James McDonald, for whom the win was some consolation after Zaaki’s withdrawal from the Cox Plate, said, “Good tough effort. A lovely colt who executed beautifully and he got the job done. If I had ridden him before I probably would have waited a little bit longer, but he had a good turn-of-foot and was tough, and towards the end the better he fought. Nice horse.”

Bred by S. F. Bloodstock, Generation was bought for $575,000 by his co-trainer Ciaron Maher and agent Dermot Farrington from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Sale. He is raced by a group of owners including Colin & Janice McKenna’s Halo Racing, Yulong Investments and Canning Downs Stud.

Generation is the second Group performer from only two foals left by the classy 2YO Group winner Fontiton (by Turffontein from the Storm Cat sire-line) before her premature death in January 2019.

He joins Group 1 winners In The Congo, Yearning & Sword Of State, Group winners Four Moves Ahead & Bruckner and Listed winners Mr Mozart & Royalzel from Snitzel’s 2018 crop.

Along with Moir S. G1 winner Wild Ruler and Group 2 winner Splintex, they have given the four-time Champion Sire his fastest season-start since the Spring they were conceived.
