Snitzel’s daughters snare 6-figure features

While Maurice and The Autumn Sun were lighting fireworks in Melbourne, Snitzel kept the party going in Sydney, as two mares from his 2021 crop landed a pair of features on the Royal Randwick card.
Arrowfield Magic Millions graduate Group 1 winner Lazzura (ex Laguna Azzurra by Heart’s Cry) extended her imposing record with a 7th black type victory in the $2 million ATC The Invitation 1400m G2, defeating Infancy and fellow Arrowfield graduate Verona Rose (Castelvecchio-Minamya).
It is the 350th stakes win on Snitzel’s awe-inspiring 17-year stud record, and his 7th black type success this season.
Arrowfield-bred in partnership with Northern Farm, the Chris Waller-trained Lazzura has shown tremendous consistency in quality company, winning 8 of her 20 starts for prizemoney of $3.1 million – a handsome return on the $500,000 Ricky Surace’s B2B Thoroughbreds paid for her as a yearling.
Her dam has a yearling colt by Farnan, foaled a Switzerland colt, a three-quarter brother to Lazzura, earlier this month and visits The Autumn Sun.

Lazzura’s rider Tommy Berry said, “I still had no idea what I was going to do going to the gates. I’ll ride her how she jumps and she pinged the lids. At the end of the day it’s not the way to ride her but she’s the best horse in the race. Good horses overcome adversity and that is what she did today.”
Forty-five minutes later, her stablemate Declichy Boulevard posted the 4th and most valuable win of her career in the $1 million ATC Five Diamonds Prelude over 1500m.

Declichy Boulevard’s rider Tommy Berry said, “I had a good chat with James [McDonald] during the week. He said just bank on her turn of foot. Don’t ride her out of her comfort zone. It tested my patience there. She began so well and I had to give up what was a good start.
“She had to do a good job to pick up the second horse. Linebacker is a good tough campaigner. He’s a G1 winner. I don’t think it is going to be too long before you see her in the G1 circle too.”
Bred & sold by Kulani Park, Declichy Boulevard was purchased for $380,000 by Cameron Cooke Bloodstock with Kevin & Vikki Payne of Hitotsu fame. She is the best of three winners so far left by Red Velvet Swing (by Star Witness), a half-sister of dual Group 1 winner Stratum Star and Group winner Prague (by Redoute’s Choice).
Snitzel’s final yearlings go through the sale-ring in 2027 and, currently 3rd on the General Sires’ table with $6.7 million progeny earnings, he must be counted a fine chance of claiming a remarkable sixth Premiership.
