Champion Sire Snitzel added his third sale-topper for 2021 when Milburn Creek’s colt out of Walk With Attitude (by Hussonet) was bought for $500,000 by Melbourne agent Suman Hedge at last week’s Magic Millions National Sale.

Snitzel also topped the Inglis Easter Sale and the entire sales season with Arrowfield’s colt out of Rising Romance, purchased for $2.5 million by Hawkes Racing.

His $1.9 million Magic Millions Gold Coast sale-topping colt from Bonny O’Reilly was bought by Tom Magnier from Widden Stud in January.

This is the second consecutive year that Snitzel has dominated the high-altitude end of the market after supplying the most expensive yearlings at Inglis Easter, Inglis Melbourne Premier & Magic Millions National in 2020.

Over the past 7 years, 10 Snitzel colts & two fillies have topped 12 of 35 major Australian yearling sales* at an average price of $1.49 million.

The sale-toppers by all other stallions in that period have averaged $912,000.

Snitzel is not taking any backward steps either. 2021 has been his best-ever year in the sale-ring with 90 yearlings sold for $41.4 million – an average price of $460,000, and a median of $377,500, the highest figures of his stud career.

He didn’t have to look far to find a role model for sustained commercial & racetrack success at every stage of his stud career. Sixty-three yearlings from the final three crops by his legendary sire Redoute’s Choice have sold for an average price of $448,000, among them six $1 million+ colts.

Here are some of the 30 stakeswinners that lay ahead of Redoute’s Choice when he was rising 19, in June 2015:

  • Group 1 winners Mustaaqeem & Perfect Jewel and brilliant 2YO Pariah were weanlings
  • Champion 3YO & 5-time Group 1 winner The Autumn Sun was brewing in the womb of his dam Azmiyna
  • Group 1 winners Alabama Express, Celebrity Queen & Loire were conceived in the Spring of 2015
  • Dual Group 1 2YO winner King’s Legacy was conceived a year later.

As the tree, so the fruit!
