Snitzel notches up his 25th stakeswinner
Snitzel’s admirable son Modello made it look easy in Saturday’s WATC Birthday S. 1200m LR, going straight to the front and staying there to notch up the first black type success among his eight career wins.
Fuchsia Bandana, favourite for the Perth feature, was 1.25 lengths away second, with two lengths separating her from third-placed Ron’s Call.
Modello is the 25th stakeswinner for Snitzel, and the fourth this season, after Sweet Idea, Smoko and Bouzy Rouge. All four are Arrowfield sale graduates.
Bred by Riverslea Farm and Scott Cameron, Modello is out of the city-winning mare Sacred Model (by Canonise), from the family of Group winners Patterns and Pride of Kellina. He has now earned more than $320,000 for his trainer Lindsey Smith and prominent Western Australian owner Elio Galante who purchased him from Arrowfield’s draft at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
Arrowfield was also the source of Snitzel’s second stakes performer on Saturday, 2YO colt Sooboog who finished second in the $100,000 ATC Breeders’ Plate LR over 1000 metres at Randwick.
“Went really nice and he’ll improve a lot,” was jockey James McDonald’s verdict on Sooboog, trained by Hawkes Racing for Sheik Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum who bought him for $1.5 million at this year’s Inglis Easter Sale.
Sooboog is a full brother to the brilliant Group 1-winning sprinter Snitzerland and their dam Monte Rosa (by Fraar) is once again visiting Snitzel this Spring.
