Snitzel ends the season with a flourish

For the third season in his illustrious career, Snitzel ends 2024/25 with more than 30 stakes wins to his credit, thanks to his 3YO sprinting daughter Bridal Waltz.

Her maiden Group victory in the $200,000 MRC Bletchingly S. 1200m G3 at Caulfield brought up Snitzel’s 31st black type win since 1 August 2024 – a tally he has exceeded twice, in 2016/17 (36 stakes wins) and 2017/18 (45 stakes wins).

His progeny’s record this season includes 6 Group 1 victories by Lady Shenandoah (3), Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Switzerland, Golden Slipper winner Marhoona & New Zealand-based 2YO colt Return To Conquer.

Jockey Ben Melham, who also rode Bridal Waltz to victory in the Creswick S. LR on 5 July, said, “The key to her is not to go too slow, she can actually sustain good gallop and good sectionals and hold it right through the line.”

Foaled & raised at Blue Gum Farm for owner-breeder Des Pope and his family, Bridal Waltz (ex Charleston Dancer by Lonhro) has now won 5 of her 12 starts and taken her career earnings past $470,000.

Her trainers Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman will now decide whether she takes a break or aims at further Group races in the early Spring. Either way, they have a progressive and valuable almost-4YO mare to work with.

Six weeks after his death on 11 June, Snitzel has been named the season’s Most Winning Sire at Australian Turf Club courses, is about to claim his 5th Australian 2YO Sires’ Premiership, and holds 2nd, 3rd & 4th spots respectively on the 3YO, Broodmare & General Sires’ Premierships.

With Bridal Waltz’s latest 7-point contribution he will also top the 2024/25 Australian Stallions Black Type Premiership on 355 points.

Just as John Messara described him, Snitzel was indeed, and will be for some time yet, the perfect stallion.
