Snitzel’s son Best Of Bordeaux returned to winning form with a tenacious victory in Saturday’s $300,000 Roman Consul S. G2, defeating Sweet Ride and Snitzel filly Willinga Beast.

He is Snitzel’s 5th individual stakeswinner this season after fellow 3YOs Williamsburg & Zoukerino, veteran sprinter Scallopini and 2YO Empire Of Japan.

Jockey Ben Melham said, “He helped me because he really travelled well into the straight before I had to put him under pressure. So it’s a good honest win and good to see him in the winner’s stall again.

Rated by Timeform last season’s best 2YO colt with a figure of 115, Best Of Bordeaux won the Canonbury S. G3  & the Silver Slipper S. G2 before his valiant second in the Golden Slipper G1.

He has now won 3 of his six starts, earning $1.2 million for a group of owners that expanded after the Golden Slipper to include Coolmore, Widden Stud, Torryburn Stud, Bowness Stud, Peachester Lodge and Cressfield among others.

Best Of Bordeaux was bred by Gerry Harvey who retained a share in him after his purchase for $425,000 from Baramaul Stud’s 2021 Magic Millions draft by trainer Kacy Fogden for the Fung family.

He is the second foal of Chateau Cheval (by High Chaparral), a city-winning half-sister to Group 1 winner & sire Casino Prince and three other stakeswinners. Group 1 winners Onemorenomore, Prince Fawaz & Green Birdie also hail from from this family.

Like multiple stakeswinner Williamsburg and 5 other runners, Best of Bordeaux is bred on the Snitzel/High Chaparral cross.

Best Of Bordeaux will get a second chance at Group 1 glory in the $2 million Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day, 29 October at Flemington.
