Snitzanova caps Snitzel’s champion week

Seven months after his death, Snitzel continues to be a major player in the Australian thoroughbred industry, on the track, in the ring and on the stallion premiership.

His 4YO daughter Snitzanova capped an enormous week for the Champion Sire on the Gold Coast by kicking strongly off a solid pace to take out the $1 million Subzero at her first try over 2200 metres, on the TAB Magic Millions Raceday.

Already a dual Group winner at 1600 metres, Snitzanova became Snitzel’s latest millionaire a day after he topped the Magic Millions Book 1 Sires’ table by aggregate with 29 yearlings from his penultimate crop sold for $19,980,000 – an average of $688,966.

That included six of the Sale’s 15 $1 million+ lots – more than any other sire and a record number for Snitzel at Magic Millions. They were headed by the $1.6 million filly ex Madame Andree, purchased by Hermitage Thoroughbreds from Arrowfield’s draft.

Snitzanova’s $572,100 share of the prizemoney took Snitzel to the #1 spot on on the current Australian General Sires’ Premiership with $12.2 million and 7 stakeswinners, with his barnmate The Autumn Sun, Fastnet Rock, Zoustar and New Zealand-based Per Incanto filling the next four places with earnings of $10 million or more.

Winning jockey Zac Lloyd said, “Ciaron [Maher] said to me that no matter where we were just to keep her happy. Fantastic training by Ciaron. For her to step up to 2200m and be strong late, it is a pleasure to ride for these trainers.

“I was focusing on my horse and trying to get her relaxed. Tommy was able to improve into the race on You Wahng and that enabled me to get going with him.”

Snitzanova was bred by Pacific King from the superbly bred mare Albanilla (by Galileo), from the deep European family of Champions Alborada, Alipinista, Albanova, Eldar Elbarov and many other notable performers.

She was foaled and raised by Arrowfield which sold her at Magic Millions 2023 for $200,000 to syndicator Bennett Racing, also successful this season with another Arrowfield Magic Millions graduate, Moir S. G1 winner Baraqiel.

At the halfway mark of season 2025/26, one thing is certain: Snitzel’s spectaular career is very far from complete.
