Six-win week for Redoute’s Choice
On the eve of the 2010 running of the race Redoute’s Choice is most famous for winning, the Caulfield Guineas, the champion sire can look back on a highly successful week.
Six winners and three stakes-placed 3YO colts in the past seven days have kept Redoute’s Choice among Australia’s leading sires during this early part of the 2010/11 season, and tomorrow, his Guineas starter Rekindled Interest will attempt to put him on top of the table.
Last weekend, Almindoro (ex Alalunga by Machiavellian) and Shadowofexcellence (ex Tugela by Riverman) filled the placings in the VRC Super Impose S. 1800m LR, and Multahem (ex Earthsea, also by Machiavellian) finished 3rd in the VRC Poseidon S. 1400m LR.
Basson and Chilled added wins at Newcastle and Eagle Farm, and Leicester Square made his return after a six-month break a successful one by winning at Muswellbrook, and taking his sire’s tally of 3YO winners for the season to 16.
On Wednesday 4YOs Neverin and Varenna Miss won in Australia, while in New Zealand 3YO colt Zardetto, from the magnificent racemare Champagne, prevailed in a tight finish at Taupo.
Rekindled Interest won his first start at two and has shown plenty of classic promise in three black type runs this season, just missing the dividend-paying spots on each occasion. His efforts have not gone unnoticed and he has attracted solid betting support this week.
Rekindled Interest is not the only runner by Redoute’s Choice in tomorrow’s major races on a stellar day at Caulfield. Empires Choice, fresh from a fine third in the AJC George Main S. G1, lines up in the MRC Caulfield S. G1; Drumbeats and last year’s winner Allez Wonder tackle the Toorak H. G1; and Arrowfield’s own filly Flowerchild is one of the favourites for the Northwood Plume S. LR.
Redoute’s Choice won a classic contest with Testa Rossa in the 1999 Caulfield Guineas, after regaining the lead in the straight with a display of raw athletic power and immense courage – qualities now regularly seen in his progeny.
