Showtime – Mating Focus #5
Continuing our series on the clues Snitzel’s progeny record offers to guide matings with his son Showtime.
The combination of the Danehill and Sir Tristram sire-lines worked brilliantly from the beginning and it continues to work almost 30 years later.
Danehill himself left 17 stakeswinners, including the Arrowfield-bred Victoria Derby G1 winner Nothin’ Leica Dane, out of mares by Sir Tristram.
Redoute’s Choice’s first Group 1 winner Lotteria, and three other early-crop Group winners were out of Sir Tristram mares.
He also had great success with mares by Sir Tristram’s best sire son Zabeel, leaving 8 stakeswinners bred that way, including Champion 3YO Filly Samantha Miss.
So it’s no surprise that Snitzel has proven to be a fine match with mares by Sir Tristram sons, producing Group winners Time For War, Macroura, Perast & Lubiton to mares by Zabeel, plus Flying Snitzel (out of a Hula Town mare) & Amorino (out of a Marauding mare).
More recently, Snitzel has left Listed winner Wayupinthesky and last month’s 3YO Group winner Bruckner from only 5 runners out of mares by Sir Tristram’s great-grandson Lonhro.
All of this history suggests that daughters of Lonhro and his sons Denman, Exosphere & Pierro will also suit Showtime.
A few breeders are already onto it: Showtime’s first crop includes four yearlings out of mares by Denman (2), Pierro and Lonhro himself.
