Continuing our series on the clues Snitzel’s progeny record offers to guide matings with his son Showtime.
Outstanding $3 million+ earner and multiple Group winner Away Game highlights the strong affinity of Gone West-line mares with Snitzel and their likely suitability for Showtime.

An impressive 22.6% of Snitzel’s runners out of mares by sons of Gone West have achieved black type and they include Group-winning juveniles Four Moves Ahead & Oakleigh Girl (both out of Mr. Greeley mares) plus Away Game and Group 3 winners Dracarys & Vulpine (all out of Elusive Quality mares).
Snitzel’s strike rate with Elusive Quality mares is particularly good: 14 winners from 16 runners, among them 5 stakeswinners and a Group-placed 2YO.

This nick is centred on the judicious line-breeding strategy to balance Snitzel’s 5 female strains of Native Dancer with Gone West’s sex-balancing male line. Other broodmare sires who activate that nick with Showtime are Elusive City, Iffraaj, Raven’s Pass, Sepoy, Speightstown and Xaar.
