Shamus Award leads the way for Snitzel’s sire sons

Four-time Champion sire Snitzel now has 20 sons at stud in Australia, six of them with runners. Five have sired winners and three of them, Shamus Award, Wandjina & Sizzling, plus the deceased Time For War, have left stakeswinners.

Leading the way for Snitzel’s sons is 2013 Cox Plate and 2014 Australian Guineas winner Shamus Award who has just broken into Australia’s top 10 sires with four crops of racing age. (Snitzel finished the 2011/12 season in 9th spot on the Premiership, with just three crops racing.)

Six stakeswinners in the past 12 months, including Group 1 winner Mr Quickie, and brilliant Kosciuszko winner It’s Me, have significantly raised Shamus Award’s profile. With 222 current 2YOs and 3YOs, and a large crop of foals arriving this Spring following his first season at Rosemont Stud in Victoria, Shamus Award has the numbers to go on with the job.

His success spotlights younger sire sons of Snitzel, including Showtime who, like Shamus Award, placed but did not win in good company at two and progressed dramatically at three. Showtime raced on at four, when he produced a career-best performance to defeat Hartnell in the weight-for-age MRC P.B. Lawrence S. G2 over 1400 metres.

Well-supported by his enthusiastic syndicate, Showtime served 129 mares in his initial season and his first foals arriving this Spring are very easy to spot!
