Say It Now for sensational Starcraft

In the wake of the second dual Group One winner from his first crop, we can say it now for Starcraft : he is a seriously sensational young sire.

His amazonian 3YO daughter We Can Say It Now (ex We Can’t Say That by Generous), pictured right, won today’s weight-for-age $NZ200,000 WRC Captain Cook S. 1600m G1 at Trentham, New Zealand in the style of a major star.

Ridden with cool professionalism by Lisa Allpress, the chestnut filly began quickly from the No. 15 barrier and slotted in comfortably just behind the early leaders. She broke cover on the turn and sprinted clear to win by four lengths from Mandela and Obsession in 1.34.04.

We Can Say It Now is raced by her breeders Paul & Lyndal Makin, who also raced Starcraft, and is trained by Murray and Bjorn Baker. She made a strong impression when winning on debut at Matamata in May and has progressed rapidly since then, adding a Listed Race win in October, before an unlucky fourth in the CJC NZ 1000 Guineas G1 on 13 November and victory in the Levin Classic G1 on 26 November. In all, We Can Say It Now has won four of her seven starts and $297,650.

After today’s win it was announced that the Makins will donate $25,000 of We Can Say It Now’s prizemoney to the Pike River Miners Relief Fund, established to support the families of the 29 miners who died in last month’s mine explosion near Greymouth, on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

We Can Say It Now joins the brilliant 3YO sprinter Star Witness as a dual Group One winner from Starcraft’s first crop, which also includes stakeswinner Singapore Sling and stakes-placed winners Ace Acosta and Mr Spock. Starcraft leads the New Zealand 2nd Season Sires’ list and is third on the equivalent Australian table.

Starcraft’s five yearlings in the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale catalogue comprise three colts and a filly in the Arrowfield draft , and a colt in the Think Big draft.
