Sandpaper continues Snitzel’s run of stakes success

It’s been 2,268 days since 1 August 2016 and in that time Snitzel’s progeny have added the staggering total of 174 Group & Listed wins to his stud record. And that doesn’t include Redzel’s back-to-back Everest triumphs in 2017 and 2018.

It works out at an average of one stakes victory every 13 days for more than six years – just one more measure of the four-time Champion Sire’s amazing consistency & class.

The latest contributor to Snitzel’s tally is Godolphin home-bred colt Sandpaper who took out Saturday’s $175,000 MRC Gothic S. 1400m LR with a determined finish, holding out Angry Skies and Arrowfield graduate Custodian (Shalaa-Honesty Prevails).

Sandpaper is the 5th Arrowfield-sired winner of the race, after another Godolphin home-bred Galah (2011), Mahuta (2015), Snitzepeg (2017) & Alabama Express (2019).

Jockey Jamie Kah’s comment “Beautiful horse and he’ll definitely get further” confirms the stable’s view that he’ll be well suited by the 1600 metres of the $500,000 Carbine Club S. 3 at Flemington on Derby Day.

Sandpaper also holds nominations for next Saturday’s $1 million Callander-Presnell at Randwick and the $500,000 W.A. Guineas G2 on 19 November – both also 1600-metre races.

The 3YO colt is the first foal of Smooth, one of five full sisters to Champion 2YO & 3YO Pierro. Another sister, Madrigals is at Arrowfield where she has left fillies to Deep Impact, I Am Invincible & Snitzel and a Snitzel colt, and has recently tested positive to The Autumn Sun.

Snitzel is keeping his hoof on the accelerator this season: Sandpaper is one of his six stakeswinners in the 77 days since 1 August. They head the 51 domestic winners that have earned most of Snitzel’s $3.8 million prizemoney, enough to hold third spot on the current Australian General Sires’ table.
