Rosco Star makes it nine for Starcraft
Tracking the rapidly developing record of Arrowfield’s exciting first season sire Starcraft has become something of a full-time job lately, with three new winners, and a Saturday metropolitan placegetter within the past week.
The latest member of the Starcraft tribe to hit the track running is Rosco Star, who bolted in by four lengths at his first start over 1000 metres at Grafton today.
A gelding from Fair Ransom (Red Ransom), Rosco Star was bred by Ron & Deb Gilbert’s Highgrove Stud, Queensland and sold for $10,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Summer Sale to Susan Grills who trains him at Tamworth for members of the Harris and Barlow families.
Fair Ransom is a half-sister to New Zealand juvenile stakeswinner Brocco Babe, from the family of Rebecca Sharp (Royal Ascot Coronation S. G1).
Rosco Star’s win follows those of Singapore Sling in New Zealand yesterday and Crafty Lady at Geelong last Friday; while previous winner Hovercraft ran a fighting second to Spirited Eagle (by Not A Single Doubt ) at Moonee Valley last Saturday.
Details of Starcraft’s nine winners to date from his first Australian crop are:
Rosco Star – gelding ex Fair Ransom (Red Ransom), debut winner, Grafton, 8 July
Singapore Sling – filly ex Gin Sling (Western Symphony), debut winner, Te Rapa, NZ, 7 July
Crafty Lady – filly ex Macedon Lady (Filante), 2nd start winner, Geelong, 2 July
Hovercraft – gelding ex Novinka (Canny Lad), 2nd start winner, Geelong, 18 June
We Can Say It Now – filly ex We Can’t Say That (Generous), debut winner, Matamata, NZ, 19 May; subsequently stakes-placed

Starstreamed – colt ex Gay Performance (Bataan), 2nd start winner, Eagle Farm, 16 January
STAR WITNESS – colt ex Leone Chiara (Lion Hunter), debut winner, Moonee Valley, 28 November; subsequent G1 winner
Starcraft is currently sixth on both the Australian and New Zealand 1st Season Sires’ lists, and has combined earnings of more than $870,000. His tally of nine first-crop winners matches that of his barn-mate at Arrowfield, Snitzel , who is currently second on the Australian 1st Season Sires’ table.
