Rich win at Wyong for Gerald Ryan purchase

Arrowfield and its stallions added their eighth winner to the Wyong Magic Millions honour roll when the Gerald Ryan-trained Aerobar won the $100,000 3YO Stakes over 1200 metres.

It was a courageous effort by the 3YO daughter of Flying Spur and Flavoured (by Hussonet), who put sustained pressure on the favourite Echo Gal and kicked on strongly to win by 1.3 lengths, with Cyclone a half-neck away third.

Aerobar was bred by Arrowfield and offered by the Stud at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale where Ryan signed for her at $250,000. Of the five yearlings he has purchased from Arrowfield at that Sale since 2010, Aerobar, Amorino & Schiffer are stakes performers and Perignon was fourth in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (R) LR behind Zoutenant, Surf Seeker & Single Gaze (Not A Single Doubt).

Stakes-placed at two behind Alpha Miss & Memorial, Aerobar won a Warwick Farm maiden two months ago before two unplaced starts at Flemington & Rosehill.

A trial win in blinkers confirmed her trainer’s opinion that the gear change would help Aerobar and so it did, as she returned to the winner’s circle and picked up the biggest cheque of her career to date.

However, Ryan is not tempted to start her in the $1 million Magic Millions Gold Coast 3YO Guineas on 10 January. He says, “She’s a sprinter, not a horse that will run 1400 metres. If we go the Gold Coast we will go for the sprint.” The $200,000 Fillies & Mares Handicap over 1300 metres is another option for her.

Aerobar is the third Arrowfield-sired winner of the Wyong 3YO feature, after Sweet Idea (Snitzel; also an Arrowfield graduate) in 2013; and Belle Soleil (Redoute’s Choice) in 2008.

The Stud can also claim five Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic winners: the fillies Assail (Charge Forward, 2012); Karuta Queen (Not A Single Doubt, 2010); and Cortina Gal (Flying Spur, 2008); and two colts, now leading sires, by Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel (2004) & Not A Single Doubt (2003). Assail, Cortina Gal and Not A Single Doubt were sold by Arrowfield.

Flavoured, a winning sister to stakeswinner Ego’s Dare – another Ryan buy from Arrowfield – from the family of A.P. Indy, has a Redoute’s Choice filly in Arrowfield’s draft for the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
