Redoute’s Choice stays in front on Australian Sires’ list
Forty-six winners and $2.1 million prizemoney in 65 days have given Redoute’s Choice a tremendous start to the 2011/12 season, and he holds a lead of almost $400,000 on the current Australian General Sires’ list.

Sister Madly headed the holiday weekend highlights with her fine second to Sepoy in Friday evening’s MVRC Manikato S. G1. The 5YO mare, now trained by John Sadler for Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, and already a dual Group 3 winner, finished three lengths ahead of outstanding mare More Joyous.
Another member of Redoute’s Choice’s 2006 crop, Tranquility posted her fourth black type performance for owners Bob & Sandra Peters when third in Saturday’s WATC Birthday S. LR.
At Te Rapa in New Zealand on Monday Sir Patrick & Lady Hogan‘s home-bred filly Joy’s Choice broke her maiden over 1600 metres in enough style to indicate that races in the New Zealand Filly of the Series may be realistic targets for her. She already holds a nomination for November’s CJC NZ 1000 & 2000 Guineas G1.
Joy’s Choice is a half-sister to multiple Group winner La Sizeranne from the Zabeel mare Tricia Ann. This is the family of wonderful racehorse and leading sire Grosvenor, Arrowfield’s Group One winner Mahaya, and Shadea, dam of Lonhro.
Another interesting 3YO maiden winner by Redoute’s Choice on Monday was Teeley Assets’ home-bred filly Flame of Lanka (from multiple stakeswinner Abbadena by Runyon). The David Hayes-trained filly justified her favoritism by coming from mid-field to win by 2.5 lengths over 1400 metres at Morphettville.
The $350,000 Sandown Guineas G2 on 12 November is the spring target for Sheikh Mohammed‘s 3YO colt Galah (ex Rinky Dink by Distorted Humor) who scored his second win from three starts at Warwick Farm on Monday. Jockey Kerrin McEvoy said after the win, “He is a very nice horse and Peter [Snowden] hasn’t really done that much with him yet. He is still learning and will get a lot better.” Galah takes the number of 3YO winners by Redoute’s Choice in Australia this season to 15 – more than any other stallion.
On top of his ever-expanding success as a sire, Redoute’s Choice is now making regular appearances in the second remove of stakes-winning pedigrees. Cases in point last weekend were 3YO Chase the Rainbow at Moonee Valley and 2YO Hussousa in Sydney (both from Redoute’s Choice mares), and outstanding ATC Flight S. G1 winner Streama, a daughter of Redoute’s Choice’s son Stratum.
