Redoute’s Choice & Snitzel shine at Rosehill

The mounting yard at Rosehill yesterday was impossible to leave as each race unfolded a fresh series of terrific performances and the full range of equine & human responses to intense competition at the highest level.

Champion sire Redoute’s Choice , his son Snitzel , and Arrowfield & Bellerive Studs were in the thick of the action all day, figuring in the outcome of 7 races on a dazzling card. Those results included four Group 1 placings.

Rekindled Interest (Redoute’s Choice) starred in the day’s most thrilling finish, the $400,000 George Ryder S. 1500m G1. Jonathan Munz’s home-bred 4YO gelding made up at least 6 lengths in the straight with a powerfully sustained run that took him so close to victory his trainer Jim Conlan celebrated for what he described as “the best 15 seconds of my life.” The photo showed that Metal Bender had prevailed by a mere nose, with a long head back to the high-class mare Secret Admirer in third place.

Four races earlier, the other half of the Rekindled brothers, 3YO colt Rekindled Alliance carried the Arrowfield silks to second place in the $175,000 Tulloch S. 2000m G3 with a similarly game, sustained run that fell less than a length short of victory, which went to the Hawkes family-trained Polish Knight.

Redoute’s Choice’s son Master of Design also came from off the pace to run third in the $125,000 Star Kingdom S. 1100m G3. His record now reads 6 wins, including last September’s ATC Theo Marks H. G2, and five placings from 16 starts.

The distaff team chimed in with four top-class efforts in three of the day’s five Group 1 events. 3YO fillies Streama (by Redoute’s Choice son Stratum) and Aliyana Tilde (Snitzel) were both resolute chasers in the $400,000 Storm Queen S. 2000m G1, respectively finishing 2nd and 3rd behind Mosheen.

Already among Redoute’s Choice’s 20 Group 1 winners, 4YO mare King’s Rose posted her third Group 1 performance this season when third to a magnificent More Joyous and resurgent Miss Keepsake in the $400,000 Queen of the Turf S. 1500m G1.

Snitzel’s 2YO daughter Snitzerland showed immense courage in a career-best effort for 2nd in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper 1200m G1, going down by less than a half-length to the outstanding Gai Waterhouse-trained colt Pierro. Not A Single Doubt ‘s daughter Doubtfilly gave Mackay trainer Stuart Kendrick, and his fellow owners a great sight and the $190,000 4th place prizemoney in return for the $150,000 late entry fee.

Another member of Snitzel’s 2009 crop, Flying Snitzel carried topweight to victory in yesterday’s $125,000 T.L. Bailleu S. 1400m G3, and became her sire’s sixth stakeswinner. Her career prizemoney is now more than five times the $25,000 Triple Crown Sydnications paid for her.

Gerald Ryan has trained an amazing 13 winners by his former charge Snitzel, including three of his six stakeswinners: Flying Snitzel, Hot Snitzel and Snitzerland.

Redoute’s Choice holds second position on the Australian General Sires’ list with prizemoney of $6.6 million, and Snitzel has pushed into the top 15 with $3.4 million.

Notably, five of the seven Arrowfield-sired Group performers at Rosehill are graduates of Arrowfield and associate farm Bellerive Stud. Flying Snitzel, Snitzerland & Aliyana Tilde are all Bellerive graduates from the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, while Master of Design & Rekindled Alliance were purchased from Arrowfield drafts at the Inglis Easter Sale.
