Redoute’s Choice marks Randwick return with 84th stakeswinner
Champion sire Redoute’s Choice celebrated the St Patrick’s day return to Sydney racing’s headquarters with his 84th stakeswinner, Maules Creek, who drove home along the rail to win the $100,000 ATC Turnpoint Randwick City Quality 2000m LR.

It was the 4YO gelding’s fourth win in an 11-start career that has been patiently directed by trainer John Thompson and owner Nathan Tinkler who have been rewarded with two wins and three placings from six city starts this campaign. Today was only the second time Maules Creek has appeared in black type company, following his last-start third in the ATC Parramatta Cup LR on 3 March.
“He has been knocking on the door,” Thompson said. “To be honest, I don’t think he handles the wet but he seemed to battle his way through it today. I contemplated scratching him, so in hindsight I am happy.”
Maules Creek was purchased for $400,000 by Patinack Farm from the Tyreel Stud draft at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Sale. It’s fitting that his first stakes win should come on New Zealand Oaks day, because that’s the race his classy mother Bramble Rose (by Shinko King) won in 2003.
This is the family of the outstanding New Zealand weight-for-age performer The Filbert who won at Group 1 level, but is perhaps best remembered for his third placings in the legendary 1986 Cox Plate, and the 1985 Japan Cup.
Maules Creek is the ninth Australian stakeswinner for Redoute’s Choice this season, and his 12th stakeswinner worldwide in 2011/12.
Redoute’s Choice has a mouth-watering draft of 43 yearlings catalogued for the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Sale, including three colts and three fillies consigned by Arrowfield .
