Redoute’s Choice mares proving potent too

Redoute’s Choice has been appearing as the sire of stakeswinners for almost nine years now – since 20 December 1993, in fact, when Not A Single Doubt won the AJC Canonbury S. LR.

Redoute’s Choice continues to add new stakeswinners to his record – he’s added six so far this season – and seems certain to hit his century in the next few months.

Altready established as a highly desirable name in the second remove of pedigrees, thanks to his brilliant sire sons, Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt & Stratum, he is now proving equally potent as a broodmare sire. It’s a role he fills in the pedigrees of three Group winners in the past week, among them his first Group 1 winner as a damsire.

That was the exciting 3YO New Zealand colt Sacred Falls (O’Reilly-Iguazu’s Girl), who came from the rear of the field to win the CJC NZ 2000 Guineas 1600m G1 on 10 November.

Bred by Waikato Stud, Sacred Falls is unbeaten in six starts and has banked almost $NZ400,000 prizemoney for owners Dato Yap Kim San and his New Zealand bloodstock manager Bruce Sherwin.

On the same day, 2YO colt Direct Charge (Charge Forward-Lady of Choice) scored a brave win in the $150,000 VRC Maribyrnong Plate G3 at Flemington.

The latest stakeswinner from a Redoute’s Choice mare appeared on Saturday when 5YO Maschino (Encosta de Lago-Tahni’s Girl) took out the $125,000 WATC R.J. Peters S. G3 in Perth.

It won’t be a surprise to pedigree students that mares by Redoute’s Choice are proving successful with the sires of these three performers.

The daughters of O’Reilly’s sire Last Tycoon have already combined with the champion son of Danehill to produce 8 stakeswinners, including Group 1 winners Master of Design & Dariana, from 39 named foals.

Redoute’s Choice has also done well with Encosta de Lago mares, leaving Group 1 performers Musir and Beneteau, and stakeswinner Essington from only 11 named foals bred this way.

Arrowfield acquired the Northern Dancer-free Charge Forward to provide an ideal outcross for the Danzig-dominated Australian broodmare population. And Charge Forward’s brand of outcross magic is working perfectly, with 8 of his ten stakeswinners being from mares by Danzig sons or grandsons.

Redoute’s Choice is now the damsire of 13 stakeswinners, eight of them successful at Group level. Buyers at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale can choose from 27 yearlings out of Redoute’s Choice mares, eight of them in the Arrowfield & Bellerive drafts.
