Redoute’s Choice filly Yavanna impresses on debut

At the end of the 150th Melbourne Cup Week, it was probably too much to expect a large audience for a 1300 metre maiden race at Cranbourne on Sunday.

Those who did catch it were rewarded with a very good debut performance by 3YO filly Yavanna, by champion sire

Redoute’s Choice from the fine Group-winning racemare Wild Queen (by Loup Sauvage), who came with a big run from last to snatch victory by a long head from Fantastic Chic, with No Rhyme or Reason four lengths away in third place.

Bred and raced by Darley, Yavanna is the first and only Australian-bred foal from Wild Queen, who was sent to Great Britain in 2008. The filly is inbred 4 x 3 to Bletchingly, and belongs to the branch of the famous Denise’s Joy family that has produced G1 winners Thorn Park, Euphoria and Bentley Biscuit.

Yavanna’s win took Redoute’s Choice’s tally of Australian 3YO winners for the season to 21, and the prizemoney earned by his current 3YOs to $1.1 million – so retaining his lead on the 3YOs Sires’ list.

Redoute’s Choice has been represented by three Australian 3YO stakeswinners in 2010/11: G2 Rekindled Interest, and stakeswinners Kittens and Milestone, as well as a 3YO stakes-winning filly across the Tasman, King’s Rose, who lines up in Saturday’s CJC New Zealand 1000 Guineas G1 at Riccarton.
