Redoute’s Choice filly wins for Shadwell
Impressive 3YO winners are the early season theme for champion sire Redoute’s Choice and No. 7 appeared today when Shadwell Stud‘s filly Ijaaza won over 1200 metres on debut at Ballarat. She travelled easily on the fence from an inside barrier before letting down with a powerful sprint to win by three lengths.

Representing the resurgent David Hayes stable, Ijaaza was a $500,000 purchase from the draft of John & Sheenagh Rippon’s Reavill Farm at the 2010 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. She is from a family that has enjoyed considerable success with Arrowfield stallions. Her dam, the Marauding mare Volte, is a half-sister to SAJC Australasian Oaks G1 winner Anamato (by Redoute’s Choice), and has already left Group 1 winner Dealer Principal to Flying Spur . Eldarin, another half-sister to Volte, produced Group 3 winner Mearas to Redoute’s Choice.
Other family members include outstanding 7-time Group 1 winner Grand Armee and Drum (VATC Oakleigh Plate G1), while further removes of the Ijaaza’s pedigree show that she belongs to New Zealand’s famous ‘Belle’ family. Volte returned to Redoute’s Choice in 2010 and is due to foal any day now.
Reavill Farm bred Dealer Principal, as well as two of Redoute’s Choice’s 20 Group 1 winners: Melito and Stratum.
Ijaaza is the 7th 3YO winner by Redoute’s Choice in Australia this season and the fifth to win on debut after four colts: Just the Tonic (ex Platonic by Nassipour), Niconoise (ex Nicola Lass by Scenic), Cross of Gold (ex They Say by Thirty Six Red) and Rekindled Alliance (ex Rekindled Affair by Rainbow Quest). The other two winning Redoute’s Choice 3YOs in 2011/12 are Offer (ex Media by Gilded Time) and Hurriyet (ex Millyet by Zabeel).
Already closing on his first million dollars of prizemoney for the new season, Redoute’s Choice stands at a 2011 fee of $137,500 inc. GST.
