Redoute’s Choice & sons on a roll

Only three weeks after a stunning sequence of six stakes wins in three states, Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel & Not A Single Doubt have tag-teamed again to compile four Group & Listed victories on Saturday’s feature Queensland & Western Australian cards.

That takes their worldwide record for this season to 59 winners of 79 Group & Listed Races = a best-ever collective tally for Arrowfield’s father-and-sons trio.

Watch Payroll, Single Gaze & Snitty Kitty win Races 3, 4 & 5 at Doomben.

Not A Single Doubt’s 43rd stakeswinner, 4YO mare Payroll opened the day with a determined finish in the $100,000 BRC Spear Chief H. 1650m LR, taking her career earnings beyond $260,000 for her  part-owner & trainer Richard Laming, who paid $80,000 for her at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Payroll is the second foal out of MacQuarie Stud’s mare Workhard (by Red Ransom), from the family of Group 1-winning New Zealand sprinter Bawalaksana, and Group winners Damaschino & her daughter Shaaheq (by Redoute’s Choice). Workhard is due to foal to Scissor Kick this comng Spring.

Forty minutes later, indomitable mare Single Gaze (Not A Single Doubt-Redaluca’s Gaze by Intergaze), born nine days after Payroll, picked up her third Group race success, the $200,000 BRC P.J. O’Shea S.2200m G2, for a group of owners including two of her breeders Redbank North and Wayne Oxford. Already a Group 1 winner, Single Gaze has returned almost $1.5 million on the $70,000 trainer Nick Olive paid for her at the 2014 Magic Millions Sale.

Race 5 at Doomben, the $100,000 BRC Lightning H. 1050m LR, was Snitzel’s turn to chime in with his 63rd career stakeswinner, 3YO filly Snitty Kitty who prevailed in a close battle with Upstart Pride and Prompt Return (by Beneteau).  The daughter of Lassiter’s Cat (by Tale Of The Cat) has progressed steadily from her Mornington maiden win last September, to city success in Melbourne, a Listed placing at Scone and now her first black type victory which takes her record to four wins and almost $200,000 from nine starts.

Snitty Kitty was bought from the Willow Park Stud draft by her trainer Henry Dwyer for $175,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Sale and is raced by a group of owners that includes her breeder Gordon Henderson. Dwyer has already sent the filly for a spell and will bring her back for a late Spring campaign and a start in next January’s Magic Millions Sprint.

A lucrative day for Redoute’s Choice & Sons wound up at Belmont in Perth when Chris Gangemi’s wonderful 7YO sprinter – and Arrowfield graduate – Rock Magic (Redoute’s Choice-Rockabubble by Bubble Gum Fellow) won his third Group race this season, the $150,000 WATC Belmont Sprint 1400m G3. Not A Single Doubt’s Group 1-winning son Scales of Justice, having his first start since December, completed the quinella.

Watch Rock Magic win the WATC Belmont Sprint G3 – Race 7.

The final eight weeks of the 2016/17 Australian season hold plenty of interest for stallion-watchers, as Snitzel chases his first Australian General Sires’ title & Danehill’s season record of 26 Australian stakeswinners. He has already broken the all-time season prizemoney and 2YO winners records and now has the opportunity to set the bar even higher for future challengers.

Snitzel’s milestone achievements are all the more impressive because the current top 20 Australian sires are an exceptionally powerful group. They include a record five stallions with prizemoney of $10 million or more (Snitzel, Street Cry, Fastnet Rock, I Am Invincible & Not A Single Doubt), and six champion sires (Street Cry, Fastnet Rock, Redoute’s Choice, Encosta de Lago, Exceed and Excel and Lonhro).

Measured by worldwide stakeswinners, Group 1 winners and 2YO stakeswinners, 2016/17 is already a career-best year for Snitzel and Not A Single Doubt.  It’s also the 12th season their champion sire has been represented by the winners of at least 20 Group & Listed Races. Here’s how the season looks so far for Australia’s dominant stallion dynasty:
