Redoute’s Choice 3YOs keep winning
Barbados became the 25th Australian-based 3YO winner this season for champion sire Redoute’s Choice this season with an on-pace victory over 1100 metres at Canterbury on Wednesday. The tally increases to 27 with the addition of two New Zealand winners, stakeswinner Burgundy and Joy’s Choice.

“He’s still learning,” jockey Kerrin McEvoy said. “He set a nice tempo in front and kept going right to the line.”
Barbados (ex Virage De Fortune by Anabaa), is trained by Peter Snowden for Sheikh Mohammed and is the first foal of the outstanding Virage de Fortune, trained by the late Bruce McLachlan.
Virage De Fortune’s eight wins included two at Group 1 level and upon retirement, a record $3.40 million was required to buy her. She and her multiple Group 3-winning sister Avenue are from a daughter of early Arrowfield shuttler Kenmare. Barbados’ third dam is the champion mare Emancipation whose daughters and grand-daughters have kept her in the news well beyond the 16 years of her lifetime.
Very few Anabaa mares have visited Redoute’s Choice but the combination has already left dual stakeswinner Come Hither.
With 25 winners Redoute’s Choice holds a commanding lead in that category of the Australian 3YO sires’ premiership, ahead of his own son Stratum (19) and Elusive Quality (18). The 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast catalogue includes 13 yearlings by Redoute’s Choice, among them Arrowfield’s colt from Hustle Bustle .
