Record results for Arrowfield at Magic Millions

Arrowfield has ended the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with 63 (95%) of 66 lots sold across Books 1 & 2 for $16,520,000 to head the Vendor list by aggregate for the 4th time in the past five years.
These figures and the draft average of $262,222 are all Magic Millions records for the Stud which also sells on behalf of several clients and breeding partners.
Arrowfield’s John Messara says, “It was a most satisfying sale for us and many vendors selling horses by Arrowfield stallions, and we’re grateful to Magic Millions for their work assembling the catalogue and the buying bench.
“I’ve always believed that if we maintain our focus on producing top-class athletes, the market will find us, and it certainly did last week.”

Topping the draft and the Sale was the Deep Impact-Honesty Prevails colt, knocked down for $1.9 million after a dramatic bidding battle won by Ottavio & Wendy Galletta, who bought Group 1 winner Castelvecchio from Arrowfield’s Inglis Classic draft two years ago.

The top-priced filly for Arrowfield was the outstanding daughter of Not A Single Doubt and Mount Zero, secured by Stonestreet Stables for $650,000, Not A Single Doubt’s highest price of the Sale.
The Stud also achieved the highest prices for first season sires Maurice, Mikki Isle & Shalaa, and second-crop stallions Real Impact & Scissor Kick.
Two-thirds of the yearlings by Maurice and Mikki Isle found buyers between $80,000 and $300,000. Hawkes Racing signed for the Maurice-Eagle Magic colt at $300,000, while Sun Bloodstock was the successful bidder for Mikki Isle’s top-priced yearling, the $250,000 filly out of Kirovskaya.
The $600,000 Shalaa-Jemison colt, a half-brother to dual Hong Kong Group 1 winner Contentment, was one of five Arrowfield yearlings bought by John Sadler for Hong Kong owner Bon Ho, who has enjoyed notable success with Not A Single Doubt’s sons Classique Legend & Southern Legend.

Trainer Paul Perry signed for the Real Impact-Wingstack filly at $220,000 and the $100,000 Scissor Kick-Serenade Lily filly. Agent Robert Roulston also paid $100,000 for Ocean Challenger’s daughter by Scissor Kick.
Dundeel posted an excellent average-to-fee multiple of 9.2, and a top price of $750,000 paid by James Harron for Mill Park’s colt out of Scarlet Moretta. Arrowfield sold Dundeel’s highest-priced filly, the $350,000 full sister of talented 3YO Profit (both out of Opportunity).
Snitzel’s second consecutive $2 million 2YO Classic win, courtesy of Away Game, capped his $13.1 million week in the sale-ring where 13 of his yearlings made $400,000 or better. His top price of $800,000 was paid by Dermot Farrington, Aquis, Brae Sokolski & Parsons Creek for Aquis Farm’s colt out of One Funny Honey.
Cressfield sold Snitzel’s top-priced filly out of Regimental Gal for $700,000 to Graeme & Linda Huddy’s Peachester Lodge.
Seven yearlings from the penultimate crop of Redoute’s Choice maintained his extraordinary $400,000+ career average. Bhima Thoroughbreds’ colt out of Gresset became his 82nd million-dollar yearling when sold to Zhiqiang An for $1.1 million. The colt’s future trainer Gerald Ryan aka “Mr Snitzel” said, “He’s as good a Redoute’s Choice colt as I’ve seen in quite a few years.”
Two Redoute’s Choice fillies sold for $300,000 including Arrowfield’s filly out of the Japanese mare Malala, secured by Rohan Hughes & Grahame Begg.
Arrowfield wound up Book 1 with the star of Saturday evening, the $900,000 Redoute’s Choice-Traceability colt purchased by Aquis Farm, Group 1 Bloodstock & Ozzie Kheir.
Arrowfield’s sale finished with 9 lots in Book 2, headed by the Dundeel-Illusionary filly bought by Paul Messara Racing for $190,000.
