Ready To Run profits flow for Arrowfield buyers
In a buoyant, but highly selective market at this week’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale of 2YOs, Arrowfield graduates & stallions gave vendors a real edge.
Among the top-priced lots was the Starcraft-Vortex colt, originally secured for $130,000 from Arrowfield’s Magic Millions Gold Coast draft last January. The buyer was Leanach Lodge which accepted Hong Kong trainer Ricky Yiu’s bid of $NZ360,000 for the colt during Wednesday’s session.
Lot 67 was Kilmore Farm’s Snitzel-Aussie Christmas colt, purchased by Anton Koolman Bloodstock for $NZ340,000, a healthy profit on the $150,000 paid for him at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale where he was part of the Arrowfield draft.
The Animal Kingdom-Bella Cantata colt, a $25,000 buy from Arrowfield at the Magic Millions National Sale, was re-offered by Woburn Farm and knocked down for $NZ160,000 to Hong Kong buyer Michael Chang.
Broodmare purchases from Arrowfield have produced positive outcomes too. The $220,000 Starcraft-Zeparty colt & $200,000 Smart Missile-North Sea colt returned around six times the combined price paid for their dams from the Stud’s 2014 Magic Millions National Sale consignment.
The Sale results illustrated the premium that buyers are prepared to pay for 2YOs by commercially attractive sires. Fourteen Ready To Run lots by five current Arrowfield stallions – Animal Kingdom, Manhattan Rain, Not A Single Doubt, Smart Missile & Snitzel – sold for an average price of $158,546. That’s more than $60,000 above the overall Sale average.
The first opportunity to buy from the new crop of Arrowfield yearlings comes at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale in January when the Stud will present 22 fillies & 36 colts, including two colts from the first crop of six-time Group 1 winner Dundeel.
