Randwick Group 3 success for Snitzel’s son Malavio
Snitzel’s classy son Malavio put up a career-best performance at Randwick today when he overpowered Bello right on the line to claim the $125,000 ATC Tramway S. 1400m G3 in race record time of 1:21.37.
Malavio defeated a quality field: Bello is already a Group 3 winner, and Group 1 winners Royal Descent (by Redoute’s Choice), Sacred Falls and Sizzling (also by Snitzel) all stormed home from the back of the field to finish third, fourth and fifth.
It was the 5YO gelding’s 9th win and third black type success from 21 starts, and took his earnings past $400,000 for his enthusiastic owner-breeder Ottavio Galletta. Malavio’s dam Win Here Win There (by Dehere), from the family of Group 1 winner True Version, also has a yearling filly by Snitzel and is due to foal again to him next month.
Trainer Steve Englebrecht hinted at a major spring target for Malavio after today’s win. “Coming from the outside alley he had to do a little bit of work early, but he has plenty of ticker the horse, he is a pretty nice horse. He might be an Epsom horse.”
Malavio, from Snitzel’s second crop, was among his sire’s tally of 18 stakes performers last season, when he won the ATC Festival S. LR. Of Snitzel’s 15 stakeswinners, ten have now been successful at Group level.
The 2012/13 APEX ratings for Australia, published in the latest edition of Bluebloods magazine, confirm Snitzel’s class as a sire. He heads the ABC ratings with a figure of 3.06, and is headed only by High Chaparral and Montjeu on the A ratings list with 4.28.
