Arrowfield’s stellar Saturday in Sydney & Melbourne was headlined by Private Life, the Stud’s 5th graduate winner of the $3 million MRC Caulfield Guineas 1600m G1, after Super Seth (2019), The Autumn Sun (2018), Weekend Hussler (2008) & Centro (1990).
It was a victory accomplished with a superb front-running performance by a talented colt and his elite jockey Damian Lane, whose perfect judgement of pace was matched by Private Life’s staunch response under pressure from the placegetters Feroce & Evaporate, with the favourite Broadsiding fourth.

Previously a two-time winner in Sydney and 4th in last month’s Guineas Prelude G3, Private Life is the third Group 1 winner after (Lady Of Camelot (Golden Slipper G1) & Velocious (Auckland Diamond S. G1) from champion sire Written Tycoon’s Arrowfield-conceived 2021 crop.
He was bred by Arrowfield with long-standing partners Planette Thoroughbred & Belford Productions and purchased for $650,000 by Tom Magnier for Coolmore & partners at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
Arrowfield’s six stakeswinners from the yearling Class of 2023 include last weekend’s Flight S. G1 winner Lady Shenandoah (Snitzel-Star Pupil), and Switzerland (Snitzel-Miss Bad Behaviour) who won Saturday’s Roman Consul S. G2. Both race from the Chris Waller stable and Switzerland is owned by the same group as Private Life.

Like Velocious, Private Life is from a Snitzel mare, in his case Aliyana Tilde (ex Patronella) an Arrowfield-bred winner of the Epona S. G3 and 3 times Group 1-placed from 2000m to 3200m for trainer Kerry Parker. She delivered an Admire Mars colt last month.
Snitzel now boasts 35 stakeswinners (inc. 5 G1 winners) as a damsire and rises to second spot on the current Australian Broodmare Sires’ Premiership.
Arrowfield is breeding from two other daughters of Patronella, G3 winner Teaspoon (by Snitzel; she visits Admire Mars this Spring) & Group-placed Bacarella (by Beneteau; filly foal by Admire Mars & visits Pierro), as well as Aliyana Tilde’s daughter Double Deel (by Dundeel), who has already left Listed winner Noah ‘N’ A Deel, produced a Maurice colt last week & returns to Maurice.
Arrowfield’s 85 Group 1-winning graduates over the past four decades have won a total of 154 Group 1 races.
