Olympic Glory to stand at Arrowfield in 2015

Arrowfield Stud is delighted to announce that four-time European Group 1 winner Olympic Glory will join the Stud’s roster in 2015.

The decision to shuttle the high-class sprinting son of Choisir is the first move by H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani’s successful Qatari racing organisation Al Shaqab into Australian thoroughbred breeding.  Olympic Glory is currently standing his first season at Al Shaqab’s Haras de Bouquetot in France.

Arrowfield Chairman John Messara says, “Olympic Glory is a first class stallion prospect and as such is a major asset for Australian breeders and also a significant first step in Australia’s relationship with H.E. Sheikh Joaan.  We look forward to launching Olympic Glory’s southern hemisphere career with a strong book of mares.”

John Warren, an advisor to Al Shaqab, says, “H.E. Sheikh Joaan is delighted that Olympic Glory will be standing at Arrowfield; John Messara’s team have a wealth of experience standing top class stallions and are committed to making Al Shaqab’s first venture into the Australian thoroughbred industry a success.”

Olympic Glory, a masculine and handsome son of Choisir from Acidanthera by Alzao won eight of his 15 starts at 1200-1600 metres and placed four times from two to four years.  He was a Group 1 winner in each of those three seasons for earnings of £1,419,773.

His career opened with four wins from five juvenile appearances. They included the Longchamp Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere G1, and Group 2 successes in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood and Superlative Stakes at Newmarket. He also finished 2nd in the Gr.2 Coventry Stakes which is the most prestigious 2YO race at Royal Ascot. His performances earned him the titles of Co- Champion British Two Year Old and the Champion Two Year Old in France.

Olympic Glory progressed at three to an impressive 3 ¼ length victory in the Group 1 Ascot Queen Elizabeth II S. G1 and an international rating of 125. That earned him a ranking as the World’s Co-Highest Rated Three Year Old Turf Miler.

As a 4YO Olympic Glory won the Newbury Lockinge S. G1 over a mile and, at his final start, the 1400-metre Prix de la Foret G1 at Longchamp. That performance was notable for Olympic Glory’s amazing run through the field to slam his rivals by two lengths in a track record time of 1.17.73. In doing so he defeated Gordon Lord Byron, winner at his next start of the British Champions Sprint Stakes and Karakontie, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Mile also at his next start.

Olympic Glory will stand the 2015 season at Arrowfield at a fee of $19,250 inc. GST and will make his first public appearance in Australia at the Stud’s Stallion Open House in August.
