Not A Single Doubt’s Guineas Day double at Caulfield

Not A Single Doubt is the third Arrowfield sire to break the million-dollar mark this season in Australia, after an early double by a pair of his talented daughters at Caulfield this afternoon.

2YO first starter Villa Verde earned a mention alongside Group 1 winner Regimental Gal from trainer Shaun Dwyer after she proved too strong in the $120,000 MRC Debutants S. LR. Jockey Michael Rodd was also impressed, describing her as “really professional” after she powered home in 57.23 seconds for the 1000 metres.

The grey filly is Not A Single Doubt’s 50th 2YO winner, 11th stakeswinner and his second this season, after Cavallo Pazzo in Perth.

Villa Verde was bred by Todd Lichti who purchased her in-foal dam Young and Free (Kenmare) for $10,500 from the Bellerive Stud draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale. The resulting filly then made $95,000 from the Kiah Glenn draft at this year’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Villa Verde’s grand-dam Sushi Rocket is a Group 3-winning half-sister to champion 2YO and leading sire Rory’s Jester, from the family of champion filly Ha Ha and Caulfield Cup G1 winner Southern Speed.

Not A Single Doubt’s 3YO daughter Isabella Snowflake will be aimed at a Listed Race on VRC Oaks day after a comfortable, three-length win in the $80,000 event over 1000 metres that opened today’s 1000 Guineas card.

She won her first start at Flemington in June by a similar margin and has been handled patiently by her trainer Mick Price and a group of owners including her breeder Craig McDonald.

From Tiamo Baby (by Strategic), Isabella Snowflake is from the immediate family of two sterling female performers: her stakes-placed second dam Ciao Baby, who won 12 races, ten of them in Melbourne, and Ciao Baby’s full sister, the multiple Group winner Vonanne.

Not A Single Doubt joins Redoute’s Choice and Snitzel with more than $1 million prizemoney on the 2012/13 Australian General Sires’ list.
