Not A Single Doubt’s Flemington stakes quinella

Not A Single Doubt’s active retirement took him into third spot on last season’s General Sires’ Premiership, and he’s carried right on with the job through the first six weeks of 2021/22.

Samizdat in Perth and 3YO filly Gimmie Par in Melbourne opened his new season stakes account on 14 August, and at Flemington on Saturday  his 3YO daughters Crystal Bound & Flying Evelyn quinella-ed the $160,000 Cap d’Antibes S. 1100m LR.

Crystal Bound (ex Crystalised by Zabeel) was bred by the Carrick family’s Noorilim Park which sold her for $400,000 to trainer Ciaron Maher at Magic Millions and kept a share in her.

Maher rates the filly highly, capable of emulating Loving Gaby’s  Manikato Stakes G1 as a 3YO, and suggests there is plenty of improvement to come.

“She’s still a bit wintry in the coat and that will really bring her on. That’s probably why she probably doesn’t look as refined as when they’ve been in work a bit longer.

“She’s in for a great prep. She’s still quite raw and was off the bit there, but her quality kicked in late, so the sky’s the limit for her.”

Flying Evelyn (ex Champagne Run by More Than Ready) was unlucky not to find racing room a little sooner, but there was much to like about the way she picked up to finish 0.2 length from Crystal Bound.

Arrowfield bred Flying Evelyn and retained a share in her after she was sold for $500,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Sale. Her dam has a 2YO filly by Pariah and a yearling filly by The Autumn Sun, and she is foaling again to The Autumn Sun this Spring.

Not A Single Doubt, whose final yearlings will sell in 2022, is currently third on the 3YO Sires’ table, behind Snitzel & I Am Invincible, and holds 11th spot on the General list.
