No Looking Back for Magic Millions runner-up

At only her second start, 2YO filly No Looking Back very nearly gave her champion sire his second Magic Millions Classic winner – and a commanding lead on the current Australian General Sires’ list.

She showed immense courage to chase down her stablemate Driefontein and gain a neck advantage just before the winning post. However, the subsequent protest against her by Driefontein’s jockey was upheld by the stewards and the placings were reversed.

It was a stunning result for Gai Waterhouse who trains both fillies, and had No Looking Back ready for battle two months after her November debut. Ditto for Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds which syndicated Driefontein after purchasing her for $75,000 last January, and jockey Tommy Berry who also rode last year’s winner Karuta Queen (by Not A Single Doubt ).

No Looking Back’s effort added $300,000 to her own, and her champion sire’s season prizemoney, which now totals $5.1 million, well ahead of all his rivals – except Driefontein’s sire Fastnet Rock.

Redoute’s Choice’s son Snitzel – whose sons Sizzling and Amorino were 4th & 5th in the 2YO Classic – provided consolation when his 3YO daughter Schiffer took out the $200,000 Magic Millions Sprint. Later, during the evening sales session, Arrowfield’s Snitzel-Flidais filly made $240,000. The successful bidder was Gai Waterhouse.
