New SW heads treble for Starcraft

As spring carnival racing gets into full swing, Arrowfield’s 2nd season sire Starcraft has chimed in with a notable 3YO treble: two impressive winners at Sandown and a new stakeswinner in Auckland, New Zealand.

3YO filly Singapore Sling (Starcraft-Gin Sling by Western Symphony) fulfilled the promise of her debut 2YO win in July with a strong win at her fourth start, in today’s ARC Soliloquy S. 1400m LR at Ellerslie.

Ridden by Vinny Colgan for owner Sildi Bloodstock and trainer Lisa Anderson, the filly launched a run from the back of the field and sustained her effort on the heavy track to win by a short head from the hot favourite Dating, with 0.75 length back to Cool Storm. Singapore Sling, whose grey colour comes from her grand-dam’s sire, former Arrowfield stallion Kenmare, was a $15,000 purchase by G. McLeod from the Bluegables Farm draft at the 2009 NZ Select Sale.

Singapore Sling is a half-sister to three winners including G2-placed Bombay Sling (by Danzero ), from the family of Group 3 winners Gin Rhythm and Any Rhythm, and outstanding dual Group 1 winner Zarita.

Twenty minutes after the Soliloquy Stakes, the strapping filly Ain’tnofallenstar (Starcraft-Ain’t Seen Nothin’ by Nothin’ Leica Dane) won at Sandown, followed a race later by Ace Acosta (Starcraft-Hill of Peace by Danehill). Both are 2009 Magic Millions sale graduates, Ain’tnofallenstar from the Arrowfield draft at the Premier Sale for $270,000 to Badgers Bloodstock; and Ace Acosta, bred by jockey Scott Seamer and sold at the Summer Sale for $120,000 to Michael Freedman. Co-incidentally, it was the second win in four starts for all three winners.

Singapore Sling is the fourth stakes performer from Starcraft’s first Australian crop, after co-Champion 2YO colt Star Witness (MRC Blue Diamond S. G1), and the stakes-placed pair We Can Say it Now and Mr Spock. Singapore Sling, We Can Say it Now and Mr Spock are all nominated for the Guineas races at Riccarton in November.

Starcraft stands the 2010 season at a fee of $38,500 (inc. GST).
