New stars rise for Starcraft
Starcraft continues to build an impressive first crop record in Australia and New Zealand, adding two new winners in the past six days.
The filly Singapore Sling (ex Gin Sling by Western Symphony) won on debut by one-and-a-half lengths over 1200m at Te Rapa, Hamilton in New Zealand today; and Crafty Lady (ex Macedon Lady by Filante) won by a similar margin at the same distance at Geelong on Friday 2 July.
That makes a total of eight two-year-old winners from the first Australian crop by the World Champion Miler of 2005. They include Group One winner Star Witness, who remains among the season’s top-rated Australian juveniles, and New Zealand stakes-placed filly We Can Say it Now. A third black type performer by Starcraft, Mr Spock, ran third in the Matamata RC Slipper S. LR in February.
Starcraft himself was placed twice from three starts at two, but quickly established his superiority at three with seven wins from nine starts, including the AJC Australian Derby G1 and AJC Chipping Norton S. G1. Named Australia’s Champion Three-Year-Old of 2004, he went on to compile an outstanding international record, with a further three Group One victories in New Zealand, England and France.
Starcraft will stand the 2010 season at Arrowfield at a fee of $38,500 (incl. GST).
