New Redoute’s Choice talent emerges

One measure of a champion sire’s quality is his ability to keep producing fresh talent, in every season of every year. It’s a test that Redoute’s Choice keeps passing, most recently with three smart winners in Australia and South Africa.

3YO filly Aliberani was first out of the blocks yesterday when scoring her first metropolitan success over 1600 metres at Sandown for owner Gary Pfeiler’s Sunlands Produce Pty Ltd. It was Aliberani’s second win and fifth cheque in five starts from the stable of Peter Moody whose representative Tom Brideoake said afterwards, “She’s always been a really nice type and it’s super to get that city win for her and there will be better wins ahead.”

The Tyreel Stud-bred Aliberani is from African Rain, a Woodman daughter of Group 1 winner Savana City, and was purchased for $250,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter Sale by Belmont Bloodstock.

Next up was 2YO Arrowfield-bred filly Honorine, who made it two from two in a 1000-metre sprint against older fillies & mares at Clairwood for trainer Mike de Kock & owner Mary Slack’s Wilgerbosdrift Stud.

Honorine was an $80,000 purchase for Form Bloodstock from the Bellerive Stud draft at the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and is the second winner for Zaldivar, a half-sister to five stakeswinners including Daralinsha and Gentle Genius, from the family of multiple Group I winner Darjina.

Form Bloodstock returned to the Bellerive draft at this year’s Melbourne Sale to buy Honorine’s half-sister by Hussonet (USA) for $70,000. Zaldivar has a weanling filly by Hussonet (USA) and is carrying a three-quarter sibling to Honorine, by Redoute’s Choice’s high-class son Beneteau .

Then, back in Australia, Mark Kavanagh unveiled what might prove to be an aptly named 2YO colt in Sheer Talent who won his second start in stylish fashion at Seymour today.

A $350,000 purchase from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, Sheer Talent’s ownerrs include his breeder Gerry Harvey. The colt is a brother to Group 3 winner Kittens, from the Barathea mare St Katherine, a half-sister to Group 1 winners Fraternity, Telesto and Bonanova, from the family of the great broodmare Eight Carat. St Katherine also has a yearling filly by Redoute’s Choice.

Redoute’s Choice, currently second on the Australian General Sires’ list with just over $8 million and 12 stakeswinners, stands in 2012 at a fee of $137,500 inc. GST.
