New Group winner for Dundeel

Trainer Kerry Parker’s high opinion of Dundeel’s daughter Hope In Your Heart was decisively vindicated when she landed Friday’s $200,000 Newcastle JC Tibbie S. 1400m G3.

It was the 4YO mare’s fourth win for her owner-breeders Alex & Deidre Iles, also the breeders of four other city winners from Hayaat (by Montjeu), whose third dam is Valderna, grand-dam of the great Champion sire Zabeel.

Rested in 2018 and 2019, Hayaat produced a Castelvecchio colt in 2021 and is booked back to him again this Spring.

Speaking about Hope In Your Heart with TDN Australia&NZ, Mel Copelin, Manager of Torryburn Stud which has been home to Hayaat and her foals since 2011, said, “We have always been hopeful she was going to come through and it was great to see her do it today. I think the future is bright for her and there are a lot of mare races they can take her to. Once she gets over the mile, I think she will be really exciting.”

Dundeel, whose 18 stakeswinners include five at Group 1 level, has made a solid start to the 2022/23 season with 24 winners and $967,000 prize money. That has him sitting inside Australia’s current top 20 sires.
