Moody buys top-priced Charge Forward yearling

The Saturday morning scratching of Magic Millions 2YO Classic favourite Assail was a blow for her sire Charge Forward, but buyers had already noted his five stakeswinners this season. They didn’t need any more encouragement to buy his yearlings in the week before the race.

Nine of the eleven Charge Forward yearlings offered found new homes, at an average price of $108,889 – a sharp lift on last year’s sale where Clarry Conners picked up Assail for just $40,000.

This year Peter Moody, who trained Charge Forward’s Group 1-winning daughter Headway, paid the top price of $210,000 for Turangga Farm‘s colt from Midnight Joy.

The highest-priced filly was Twin Palms Stud‘s daughter of Polaway, a daughter of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success. Her buyer at $170,000 was trainer John O’Shea who trained Charge Forward and has already had success with another of his fillies, Group 3 winner Solar Charged.

Twin Palms also sold a filly from stakeswinner Laurel Avenue for $105,000 in Session 5 to Gillian Heinrich.

Visiting American agent David Ingordo included a Charge Forward yearling among his ten purchases, paying $100,000 for a filly from the Group-placed Flying Spur mare Okaylah.

Next chance to buy a yearling by the son of Red Ransom is at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where Arrowfield will offer Charge Forward fillies from Sicilia and Lilanda (IRE), and Manx Park will present a colt from La Fleur. View the Arrowfield draft here .
