It’s been an excellent Spring for Arrowfield’s young sires Maurice & Shalaa and three new winners on Thursday keep the ball rolling for them.

An interstate double takes Maurice’s season tally of winners to 18 and maintains his lead on a  stellar group of Australian second season sires with almost $2.1 million prizemoney.

Star Thoroughbreds’ filly Morioka (ex Koonoomoo by Dubleo) broke through for a well-deserved and dominant maiden success at Mornington, while Rocstar Boy (ex Arleigh by Smart Missile) scored at Quirindi.

Maurice has been represented by three Australian stakes performers this season: brilliant Victoria Derby G1 winner Hitotsu, Sydney stakeswinner Mazu, and Port Louis, runner-up in The Amanda Elliott LR at Flemington.

The Japanese champion has five yearlings in the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, including two fillies and a colt in Arrowfield’s draft.

3YO colt Critical Time (ex Silverscreen Queen by Exceed and Excel) became Shalaa’s 15th winner this season with a determined effort for trainer Blake Ryan at Hawkesbury.

Those winners include 2YO colts Semillion (ex Sistonic by Danehill), victorious on debut for Team Hawkes in the $400,000 Inglis Banner RL at The Valley, and Le Gagneur (ex Rationality by Flying Spur), Group 3-placed on his Cup Day debut at Flemington for the Griffiths & de Kock stable.

A $200,000 purchase from Arrowfield, Le Gagneur lines up again in tomorrow’s $250,000 Magic Millions Ballarat 2YO Classic.

Shalaa is 2nd on the 2YO Sires’ Premiership and 4th on the Second Season Sires’ table with almost $1 million prizemoney.

The son of Invincible Spirit has 26 lots catalogued for January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, among them 7 colt and 5 fillies offered by Arrowfield.
